Being involved in a car accident can be stressful, it can be expensive, or you could be injured. Straight after the accident there are important things to remember, check out the 5 most common mistakes people make after an accident.
1. Not keeping your cool
The most important thing to remember after a car accident is to stay calm. Nothing will be gained from losing your cool. Remember to stay calm and to try to calm anyone else involved.
2. Not getting the other driver’s info
It can be a stressful and confusing time straight after an accident but it important to remember to collect the other driver’s details. It is a great idea to keep a pen and paper in your glove box in case of an accident.
3. Not seeking immediate medical attention
If you are hurt in a car accident you should definitely see a doctor as soon as you can. Waiting to seek medical attention can also affect your insurance claim, if you are making one. In some cases you may feel fine and it isn’t until days or weeks or even months later that you realise something is wrong so it is always a good idea to get checked out immediately. Not only are you benefitting your health, you are assisting your insurance claim.
4. Admitting guilt
If you were walking down the street and you accidently bumped into someone, it would be considered a polite thing to do to say, “I’m sorry”. However this is not the case in a road accident as it can be viewed as an omission of guilt. You may believe yourself to be at fault, but don’t forget that the other driver could be partially to blame also, so there is no way to know all the details surrounding the crash. For example the other driver may be under the influence of alcohol.

Get pictures! Of everything! It is important to take photographs of any damages be it to your vehicle or your person. These pictures will assist with insurance claims and medical purposes.
