Have you heard yet? We’re excited to announce that our RAV4 range is growing! There’s already a tonne of reasons to love Australia’s favourite SUV and now there’s two more with the introduction of the RAV4 XSE & Edge Hybrid models!
Significantly upgrading the RAV4 range, Toyota has introduced the new (and sporty) mid-level XSE variant, which expands the popular 2.5L hybrid powertrain across the entire RAV4 range. That’s right, from GX to Edge there’s a RAV4 Hybrid for every family.

The newly introduced XSE model sits in between the hugely popular GXL and Cruiser grades when the updated range arrives in the first quarter of 2022. To add to the excitement, it will be offered in both 2WD and AWD hybrid options.
The offering of hybrid in the range-topping adventure-focused Edge model to the RAV4 line-up means that another gap has been closed by Toyota. Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the new RAV4 updates ensure Toyota keeps delivering improvements that customers want.
"Customer demand for the RAV4 hybrid models has been most encouraging with the intelligent hybrid powertrain making up over 70 percent of all RAV4 sales," Mr Hanley said. "The wider availability of hybrid, along with the introduction of the sporty XSE and other specification upgrades demonstrate Toyota's commitment to deliver on what our customers demand, and continue to deliver ever-better cars." he said.

Features of the new RAV4 XSE:

The RAV4 XSE is available in either front or all-wheel drive and is exclusively offered with the 2.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, producing a combined 160kW in 2WD appearance. Choosing to opt for the AWD will add a second electric motor on the rear axle, bringing the combined output to 163kW. The Trail mode function alters the throttle, wheel braking, and torque distribution to maximise traction in slippery conditions, increasing the safety features of this vehicle.
The XSE will be offered in four colours, all paired with a black roof:

- Silver Sky
- Graphite
- Mineral Blue

What does Hybrid mean for the RAV4 Edge?
For the first time, Toyota will offer the dual-electric motor 163kW hybrid powertrain, mated to a continuously variable transmission, in the top of the range AWD Edge. The hybrid powertrain will join the 2.5-litre petrol engine in the Edge in producing maximum outputs of 152kW at 6600rpm and 243Nm from 4000-5000rpm. All four wheels will be driven via an eight-speed automatic transmission with on-demand 4x4 capability.
The Edge variants have gained extra safety equipment with the addition of rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA) and parking support brake (PKSB) that feature autonomous braking capability for static objects when moving forward or backward, or for cars crossing behind the vehicle when reversing.
