SAFETY MONTH: Why Should You Tint Your Car Windows?

Window tint is the most popular aftermarket accessory at the moment in Australia, and it’s not hard to see why.

Tinting the windows of your car can:

1. Help protect your skin from harmful UV rays

2. Reduce the temperature of the car interior

3. Decrease the fading of the car interior in the long run

How will tinting my windows protect my skin?

As young Queenslanders, we’re told to slip, slop and slap our sunscreen every day to protect ourselves from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun. With the Sunshine Coast area receiving around 261 days of sun out of 365 days of the year, it’s easy to see why sun protection is so important.

This advice still reigns true when we become adults, but as we grow older, protecting our skin becomes our responsibility – and there are endless ways on how we can do this. Tinting your car windows is an easy way to add to your skin protection, as you can get it done once, and benefit from it daily.

Tinted windows on cars can provide protection by significantly reducing the amount of solar UV radiation that penetrates through the tempered glass by over 99%. This means that you can drive your car with an added peace of mind, knowing that you are protected from harmful UV rays.

How will my tinted windows reduce the temperature of my car’s interior?

Tinting your car windows can reduce the interior temperature by 6.4 degrees Celsius when exposed to sunlight. While this figure may seem on the smaller range, when put into the perspective of your car’s interior temperature being 22 degrees Celsius versus 28.4 degrees Celsius, the former is clearly the favourable temperature, and you wouldn’t even have to turn the aircon on.

How will tinting decrease the fading of my car’s interior?

Window tint will protect your car’s interior from around 99% of UV light. Car interior fade and fabric bleaching is credited to UV light (by up to 40%) as well as visible light and solar heat.

These factors are reduced when applying a window tint, as the film consistently blocks the harsh sun that can fade upholstery and discolour leather and vinyl. It can also protect your car interior from cracking, which your car interior will love you for in the long run.

Why should I choose a Toyota trained technician for my tint?
