50 Series (1967-1980)

The Land Cruiser FJ55 station wagon was launched in August 1967, replacing the FJ45V van. It had a 2,700 mm wheelbase chassis, a redesigned body, and was marketed as a passenger vehicle overseas. It featured a 3.9-liter 6-cylinder gasoline engine, a 2-speed transfer case, and a 3-speed manual transmission. The FJ55 was replaced by the FJ56V in 1975 to meet emission standards, which had an inline 6-cylinder 4,230 cc 135 hp engine and a 4-speed manual transmission.

60 Series (1980-1989)

The 60 Series succeeded the 55 Series in August 1980, featuring a refreshed exterior and upgraded 4.2-liter gasoline and 3.4-liter diesel engines. The station wagon was the export model, while the domestic model was categorized as a commercial van. The front bench seating was replaced by separate seats for better posture and reduced passenger capacity from six to five. Air conditioning, power steering, and fabric seats were also added for individual user convenience. Two years later, a 6-cylinder 3,980 cc diesel engine (2H) was added, followed by higher-powered models with turbochargers, EFI, automatic transmission, and diff lock systems during the model's lifespan.

80 Series (1989-1998)

In October 1989, this model replaced the 60 Series and added an 8-seater wagon. It was upgraded to compete in global markets with larger dimensions, luxury features, and a sporty look. The wagon had a gasoline engine, while the van had a new 4.1-liter diesel engine with coil springs replacing leaf springs for better ride quality. High-end models featured a full-time 4-wheel drive with a center differential. In August 1992, a more powerful 4.5-liter engine replaced the gasoline one. This luxury SUV gained worldwide popularity for its superior performance and durability in harsh natural conditions.

100/105 Series (1998-2007)

The Land Cruiser 100 replaced the 80 in January 1998, boasting better 4WD performance and luxury. Its 5-door wagon body had a larger cabin and a separate frame structure. It featured a new 4.6-liter V8 gasoline engine (235 PS) with a 4-speed automatic transmission (later upgraded to a 5-speed in August 2002). The drivetrain was full-time 4WD, and the van model had a 4.2-liter turbo diesel engine. It also had an independent double wishbone front suspension and ventilated disc brakes with hydraulic boosters. The VX Limited model had an optional Active Height Control with Skyhook TEMS. In December 1998, the top-of-the-line Cygnus was released.

200 Series (2007-2021)

In September 2007, Toyota launched the Land Cruiser 200 Series as the successor to the 100 Series, with a 60 mm longer and 30 mm wider frame. The new model boasted a stronger, more durable frame structure, improved collision safety, and greater interior comfort. It featured a 4.7-liter V8 gasoline engine with an intake VVT-i system, boosting output by 39 kW (53 PS). The "crawl control" feature maintained low speeds for off-road driving, and a Torsen LSD transfer unit delivered smooth driving performance on all models. Marketed as a high-end SUV in over 100 countries, the North American market received a 5.7-liter Lexus LX, the brand's flagship SUV.
