National Tree Day
Each year, around 3,000 preschools, kindergartens, primary and high schools across Australia take part in Schools Tree Day. Students nationwide have learned how to dig in for the environment and have fun getting grubby planting over 470,000 native seedlings, trees, shrubs, edibles, and flowers.
Schools Tree Day not only benefits the environment but also the kids as they learn about the importance of nature in our daily lives. Educators are encouraged to introduce nature-care activities, outdoor learning, and fun, healthy environmental programs into the day-to-day experience of our children to help them grow.
This year for Schools Tree Day we had the pleasure of taking native plants from Coolum Community Natives Nursery to the beautiful students at Montessori International College to help plant much-needed trees in areas within their school. Around seven weeks ago, many trees were damaged during a windstorm, meaning that this was the perfect opportunity for us to help. It was so great to be a part of such an important activity and to experience how willing all of the students were to help plant the trees, dig the holes, and spread the mulch around.
We had a wonderful day chatting to the students and teachers of Montessori International College and we can’t wait to see how the trees we helped plant, grow over the months and years to come.
Our team at Sunshine Toyota loves this community event as we get to go out and share this experience with some incredible students and members of the community. A special thanks to Brooke, Emma, Calum, Chantal, Sarah, and Narelle who all came to get their hands dirty!
