Sunshine Toyota is passionate about the education of road safety for our guests, the Sunshine Coast wider community and especially for our new and future drivers. We believe it is important to empower young drivers with the knowledge of what to do in the case of an emergency on the roads, as well as have some basic understanding about their car and how to keep it running safely. With the help of our guest speakers and technicians, we hosted our second Young Driver Information Night on 18th of July 2018. We had guest speakers from the police, fire and rescue and Right Turn driving school and our own Toyota technicians share valuable information and demonstrations related to safety and what to do if you find yourself stuck or in a bingle on the road. Here’s a little recap of our recent Young Driver Information night.
Queensland Police Service
Senior Constable Mark Johnston gave a talk on his role with the Queensland Police Service and what does day to day which is patrolling Sunshine Coast roads. He explained what to expect when you’re pulled over by a police officer and what is expected of you as a driver. He emphasised that every driver must provide a breath or saliva sample if asked to do so by a police officer. Senior Constable Johnston also explained in detail the penalties if caught breaking the law of the following:
- Drink driving
- Drug testing
- Speeding
- Not displaying L & P Plates
Caloundra Fire and Rescue
Bradley Moore and his crew from Caloundra Fire and Rescue gave a great talk about what do if you’re in an accident whether it is minor or major. They stressed how important it is to make sure you’re safe before you attend to anyone else if there is anyone else involved an always call for assistance. If it’s a minor accident and the cars can be moved off the road, it should be done to stop traffic from banking up. They also showed and asked the young drivers to hold the equipment they might use if they attended and accident where a driver was trapped. Some the young drivers were shocked at how heavy the equipment is.
Right Turn Driving School
Ray from Right Turn Driving School has years of experience in teaching young people how to drive on Sunshine Coast roads. Ray preaches and teaches safe driving practices that ensure that young drivers feel confident and safe on the road. He is also a big advocate for the Key2Drive approach. Which is a revolutionary approach to learning road safety. Learner drivers can receive a free driving lesson, which is a great opportunity for the learner driver, driving instructor and parent/supervisor to learn the Keys2Drive approach together. We can’t recommend Ray enough! He’s the learning to drive guru around the Sunshine Coast.
Sunshine Toyota Technicians
Liam is one of our clever apprentice’s at our Sippy Downs Service Centre. Liam spent his time with the young drivers teaching them how to check tyre pressure and fluids in the car (oil, windscreen washer water, brake fluid and engine coolant). Hopefully, they all feel they can have a crack at checking these things on their own now.
Glenn is one of our technicians at our Pre Delivery Centre in Warana. Glen showed the young drivers how to change a flat tyre. He made special mention to always making sure it’s safe to change your tyre on the side of the road. If it’s not, call assistance. Glenn actually brought his daughter along who has just recently got her L-plates. Good luck with the teaching Glenn :)
